In mid-October 2023, Sophia Alhadeff (she/they) and Shug Munic (they/them) met at a Jewish Voice for Peace meeting and began organizing a community quilt. Together, they agreed that the quilt would be a site for grief and a memorial to the ongoing violence at the hands of the US and Israeli Empire.

Olam HaBa translates to “the world to come.” Drawing from the history and legacy of community activist quilts, this quilt acts as a communal practice of envisioning the world we wish to live in and create with our communities. The invitation extended is to respond to the question: How is Jewish safety and Palestinian liberation inherently intertwined?

After putting out the call for quilt blocks at the end of November 2023, they received 36 blocks from the US and Canada. Quilt blocks were made at workshops in Minneapolis & Chicago as well as individually. As you engage with this piece, we invite you to hold the question “What is the connection between urgency and steadfastness?” as exemplified by the quilting process during an ongoing genocide.

Please join us to view the Olam HaBa quilt, speak to organizers about how the project came to be, and raise funds for crucial mutual aid resources in Brooklyn and Gaza. All funds will be split between Equality for Flatbush and The Sanabel Team

The organizers are also inviting folks to donate pins to the quilt to be adorned on the blank borders. Pins can be related to any land back & solidarity movement as liberation is interconnected. Your pin will be permanently donated to the quilt.

The quilt will be displayed at The Brooklyn Artery on March 23rd, 2025, from 2 pm to 5 pm EST. The speakers will share about the process between 2:30pm-3:30pm. We hope you join us to continue building community across the country and envisioning the world to come! RSVP HERE.
